I GOT A PUPPY FOR MY BIRTHDAY. :matteo:

My sister's Pug, "Rollie Poley," had 8 babies (2 died :( ) today. I went home to hear; "You get first dibs" from my sister. :D I chose a wee black male with a small white spot on his chest.

The puppies were also born today! So I get to share my birthday with the little guy! :meow: I don't know what I'm going to name him, though.
:iconohnoesplz:

I wanted to get a puppy from Pill-bug (what I call Rollie) when I found out she was pregnant so my son can have a puppy to play with that won't crush him. ROFL I know newborns and dogs don't get along well, but Pugs are mellow with the babies and actually enjoy curling up with them and snoozing (like Pugs do best).

From Ross I got a home-made chocolate cake. In January, he's buying me a tablet (HOORAY) that I picked out. February, he's buying me a year-long subscription to DeviantART (like a late Christmas gift).

I got two gifts from the in-laws. I don't know what they are yet because they're wrapped and they demanded I open them in front of them. (NOT going to happen. LOL) I'll find out later in the seclusion of my bedroom. ^_^

I got four sketchbooks of choice from my mom, and a new ruler (since I lost my old one). One of them is a small one (9.5" by 6"); two are normal (11" by 9"), and two huge ones at 18" by 12". Then my pretty flexible ruler (so I don't break it like I have others :aww: ) in my favorite color: red. Haw haw.

The best thing's been the cake. I love edible stuff, especially of chocolate nature. Mom made me a custom card (that she didn't get to print :( ) that she's giving me tomorrow, too.

With winter comes joy. [EDIT on bottom.]

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 16, 2009, 1:42 PM

Actually, I'm lying. I hate winter. Everyone in my house -- Ross, his mom, Amanda, Mitch (and probably myself; I feel icky now, too) -- is sick. D= I can at least point the finger at Patient Zero (Amanda) and make some bantering remarks about how she brought this illness home. :D

Last night, I -- like an ignorant child all over again -- stayed up late working on one drawing (a commission, to be exact) for about 2-4 hours. Wanna know how far I got? Foreground coloring. And I colored the character, too.

Thus far I'm satisfied with it. I like it... a lot. I'm so close to finishing this commission I can smell it's savory mellifluousness. But I don't know if I want to show it yet. After this, I have two other commissions and some trades to finish up, and then I'm freeee. (The two commissions I should finish easily and without an issue. It's after I have the baby that's going to make it even harder to complete things.)

I want to surprise the commissioner with it's "awesomeness." Yeah, GU, I'm talkin' to you! (~ZergSwarms) You watchers out there should really go read the excerpt of his story, The Story of Lily and Rowen, that he has on his account.

Other than that, I've been getting frustrated. A lot. Friends are going around in the same circles with no end in sight; members of Animation Source being silly little nits. Raising nothing from me but abhorrence.

Hoor-fucking-ray, right? :meow:

_______________

MY BIRTHDAY IS TODAY. I'm finally 18; only the Gods know what I'll be up to now! ;)

I already know what Ross is getting me;

• A brand new Wacom tablet (late, but I'm getting it in January  )
• In February, a year-long subscription to DeviantART because *LestatsGaurdianWolf spoiled me (and now I'm addicted). (Luckily, that is just in time for when my gift subscription expires. :D )

I like knowing what I'm getting -- especially stuff like that -- because I hate it when people surprise me. It's awkward, I don't know how to react. At least on the Internet, have have some time to "calculate" my reaction without worrying about a deceitful facial expression.

While browsing "critiqueable," looking for something to occupy my time, I ran into this:

Now, this guy (David J. Vanderpool) hasn't been a member of DeviantART for very long. As a matter of fact, not yet a year! Yet he only has 8,839 pageviews and a whopping 379 watchers! (I point this out because I feel like an artist, at his level, should receive some more respect via appreciative fans.)

With the thumbnails below, you cannot deny that this artist holds with him impressive skill and awesome technique that only comes with years of "artist" seasoning.

And he's even polite enough to respect those artists "not better" than he. In his comments, you will see this in a reply to ~kevsterman :

"...As for being as good as me? I say if I can do it anyone can! It just takes the desire to learn from the last drawing and try to make the next one a little better, and never listen to what others say in regards to how to draw..... just experiment until you like what you do. Just like in life!"

How awesome is that?! Most artists who are so "great" never, ever, pay attention to less popular artists. Let alone encourage them! The fact that Mr. Vanderpool does this only makes my respect for him thrive.

I've yet to have this man in my watch for more than an hour and I feel like a mewling fan girl. I have never seen such talent -- especially on DA -- that has caused me to confuse a drawing for a photograph! (If you'd like to know what I'm talking of, see the thumbnail above.)

Now, check these out -- and visit his gallery for more!

[EDIT]

After browsing his Facebook, I stumbled onto this: [link]=David+J.+Vanderpool

How amazing is that? You can legally, without hurting his "business," bring home his art!

It is a "journal-style approach to how this artist completed 25 drawings in one year." The synopsis says:

"Pencil drawings - A rare and often over-looked art form in today's art scene. This collection of masterfully crafted graphite pencil drawings shows the step-by-step process it took to complete over 26 dynamic drawings in less than a year. With over 350 illustrations, see the portraits develop and read the artist's thoughts and views on how he crafts each incredible work. This "journal style" book gives the reader unique insight into the creative mind of the artist and takes the reader on a journey from blank page to masterpiece." (By this, I can accurately judge that it's a "point-of-view" style instruction guide?)

You can download the first 9 pages of his book on his website (the very first link on the top); I have done so, and I am anticipating on starting a collection of all his books (hopefully commissioning him someday myself). To me, this artist is timeless. He knows what it takes to be a "real" artist (and just by looking at his page, you can see that). It's not about the money, the fame or the glory; it's about passion, diligence, and respect for everything around you. With more browsing, I have found that he believes firmly in this fact. And my respect for him is still inflating.

So, Mr. Vanderpool, to you I wish the best! :meow:

I have been asked many times why I have not been to a church in many years. After this recent event, I will now make it more "known."

About three-four years ago, when my sister was pregnant with my nephew (her first child) at the age of 15, she was still frequently attending the church that we both attended with my now-deceased Great Grandmother Robinson.

The pastor at the time, who was fairly new (but not "too new"), said something to the following effect to my sister: "God will not forgive you and you will never go to Heaven because you're pregnant out of wedlock."

I, personally, have always followed the mantra of: Put your faith, not in a man of God, but in God. I became even more thorough in my belief of that statement after that.

And, just last Sunday, my sister took her two children (3-year-old Christian and 2-year-old Ashelynn) and our two little brothers (12-year-old Marcus and 10-year-old Brandan) to that same church. She began to re-attend after Grandma Robinson's death this past year.

My sister had a brief errand to run. Hence, she left Marcus and Brandan in the church nursery with her two kids, allowing them all to play together. Nursery = Lots of colorful, noisy, fun toys! So, naturally, the younger kids made a mess.

Now enter a new woman -- Diana K. She began to bitch about the mess. My sister said she would have them clean it up (which is true). The woman that said that my grandmother and Grandmother Robinson, as well as my mother, had not taught myself, Ashley (my sister), or any of the kids at the church [in my family] any respect for the "House of God."

Later, when my sister and the boys (Marcus and Brandan, even Christian) were cleaning up, Diana sent a young girl into the woman's bathroom next door. The girl entered the room with air freshener, and sprayed it.

When my sister took the events to the pastor, Diana had even more audacity to approach, butt in, and call my sister a liar! She also butt in when my sister was apologizing for the mess to Lisa (the coordinator of the Youth programs at this church), insulting her there, as well.

The woman also insulted my mother when she, distraught, approached the situation. Diana made a comment about how she was bedside to my grandmother (mom's mom) when she died. She was in the kitchen using the phone! (FYI: on a personal call to boot!)

It's people like that which drive me away from churches. Biased, closed-minded people who think that their roses smell good all the time. That their "shit doesn't stink." In the Catlin church, it's all rumor and how much money you have. In Tilton, it's how much ass you kiss. And Danville? Well, I won't even bother with Danville.

So, I keep my "religious practices" at home. That's why.

(And now to consider the wording of other things on my mind.)
